Recently, I had a session with a client who came to me with a deep-seated fear of flying. Just the thought of boarding a plane would trigger intense anxiety—sweaty palms, racing heart, and a sense of impending doom. He hadn’t flown in years, and the phobia was starting to limit not just his vacations, but also career opportunities and family connections abroad.

During our session, we worked to uncover the root of his fear. Often, these phobias are linked to a past experience or even a learned belief that’s been sitting in the subconscious, running the show. As we explored further using hypnotherapy, something shifted. He accessed a memory he hadn’t consciously connected to flying before—an incident from childhood involving his grandmother telling him her story about flying and going through the scariest turbulence.

While telling me this story under trance, he couldn’t stop laughing,

Once we brought that memory to the surface and reframed it, his body language changed. The tension in his shoulders eased, and by the end of the session, he could visualize himself walking through an airport, boarding a plane, and flying calmly. The fear had lost its grip.

A week later, I received a message from him:

“I booked my flight. I’m actually excited.”

It’s moments like these that remind me how powerful the mind is—and how quickly change can happen when we access the right part of it.
